Salud Integral de la Montaña (SIM)
A private, non-profit, community-based organization, incorporated into the Department of State since 1974; recognized by the federal government as a “Federally Qualified Health Center” with a grant under section 330 of the Federal Public Health Law.
SIM has been a primary and preventive health care provider within the mountainous region of Puerto Rico for over 49 years. Serving communities in vulnerability with limited medical care through their Comprehensive Health Centers located in the municipalities of Barranquitas, Bayamón, Comerío, Corozal, Naranjito, Orocovis, and Toa Alta. Offering a wide range of clinical services and specialized programs, such as Home Health and Hospice La Montaña, among others.
Salud Integral de la Montaña has provided care for more than 50,000 patients in the mountains. SIM has a mission to continue being a leading private organization in high-quality integrated primary and specialized health services, focused on the well-being of the community at all stages of life. With a clear vision of becoming the first option in the provision of health services due to its culture of service, diversity, quality, safety, cutting-edge professionals, technological innovation, and cost-effectiveness.

Description: The CDC is offering funding to create a special laboratory called “Newborn Screening Center of Excellence”. This laboratory will use advanced technology, like Whole Genome Sequencing and Mass Spectrometry, to improve newborn screening. By doing this, doctors can find diseases early and help newborns get the right treatment sooner. Over four years, the laboratory will test out these new methods and share what they learn with other labs. This project seeks to make sure newborns get the best possible start in life by using the latest technology to keep them healthy.

Description: This three-year competitive announcement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports oral health programs aimed at preventing and controlling oral diseases among priority populations. Title: Supporting Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Screening and Intervention

Description: The Health Resources and Services Administration’s Supporting Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Screening and Intervention program aims to reduce alcohol use during pregnancy and improve outcomes for children with FASD, especially in communities where binge drinking during pregnancy is common. By educating Primary Care Providers (PCPs) and promoting screening, intervention, and referral processes for high-risk pregnancies, the program seeks to increase PCPs’ knowledge and skills in identifying and managing FASD, fostering effective communication with families, and making lasting positive changes in healthcare practices, particularly in rural and medically underserved areas.
