Naresh Kumar, PhD, is a Professor of Environmental Health and Biostatistics in Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami (UM). He directs the graduate program in Climate and Health. His research is geared towards the prevention and management of the environmental disease burden exacerbated by climate change. Specifically, he leads efforts to train the next generation of manpower that has a deep understanding of the direct and indirect relationship between climate and health, and skill set to assess and manage the disease burden associated with environmental stressors exacerbated by climate change. His research advances personalized health risk surveillance using real-time sensors and time-space modeling. This allows him to engage individuals and communities in preventive measures, e.g. adverse environmental exposure avoidance (such as indoor air pollutants, allergens and heat stress) that are implicated in various disease including pregnancy outcomes, asthma, allergies and other chronic diseases.
