GROW PR Network Highlights
Empowering Puerto Rico’s Healthcare Landscape: GROW PR Network’s Journey at the 44th Annual Research and Education Forum at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus
The 44th Annual Research Forum witnessed a groundbreaking milestone as the Generating Research Opportunities Working Together for Puerto Rico (GROW PR Network) showcased its pioneering efforts in stakeholder engagement and collaborative research. Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of academic exchange, GROW PR Network positions itself as a beacon of innovation, heralding a new era of transformative healthcare initiatives in Puerto Rico.
At the heart of GROW PR Network lies a commitment to team-based stakeholder engagement, bridging the gap between research data and evidence-based practices. The Network’s participation in the 44th Annual Research Forum was marked by the presentation and discussion of December 19’s meeting success, a dynamic semi-structured group activity. Employing Team-based learning strategies and context analysis, twenty-four participants representing diverse sectors engaged in collaborative exchange, drawing from their experiences and insights to shape the research agenda. Organized into four groups, participants delved into three key prompts, generating robust discussions and actionable insights.
The outcomes of the group activities underscored the urgent need to enhance access to healthcare services for vulnerable populations, including those with chronic health conditions, mental health needs, and marginalized communities such as HIV and LGBTQI+. Additionally, a consensus emerged on the importance of addressing medical literacy gaps between clinicians and patients in rural areas of Puerto Rico. Each group proposed collaborative strategies involving multisectoral organizations and key stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of accessibility, communication, and inter-organizational participation.
