WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE ALLIANCE PILOT PROJECTS AWARDEES FOR 2022
This year four projects were selected to receive up to $50,000 for a year. These funds will go to investigators from the UPR-Medical Sciences Campus
THE 2022 PILOT PROJECT AWARDEES ARE:
Interplay between microbial and immune cells in HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer
The long-term goal is to identify microbial and immune biomarkers to identify patients that could benefit more from immunotherapies as well as identify probiotics that could be used in combination with immunotherapies for Hispanic cancer patients.
Gut microbiome in a sample of Hispanic patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
The overall goal of this study is to establish associations between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and gut microbiome in a sample of Hispanic women aged 21-45 years living in Puerto Rico.
Expression of immune-related Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms of TLR4 and LR9 as susceptibility biomarkers for cervical dysplasia and HPV infection
The long-term goal is to perform a case-control design for further application of significant SNPs expression in patients with cervical dysplasia and cancer, to propose screening and treatment strategies using an individualized approach taking into consideration the presence of these biomarkers.
HIV and COVID in Puerto Rico Study
We aim to answer the research question: What is the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on HIV prevention and care services for Latinx sexual minority men (SMM) and transgender women in Puerto Rico? We expect to identify different determinants of health in which we could intervene to ameliorate the impact of public health emergencies in the continuum of HIV prevention and care service
