In 2023, the Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, and Cyberinfrastructure Enhancement Core (BiBEC) welcomed Dr. Castro as a consultant, working with big data analytics, focusing on the N3C Data Enclave. Recently, Dr. Castro joined (BiBEC) and the Hispanic Alliance for Clinical and Translational Research in a full-time capacity!
Dr. Pedro J. Castro is a computational scientist with extensive expertise in applying advanced computational models to the fields of chemistry, pharmacy, and public health. He holds a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, european MS, and PhD, with over five years of postdoctoral research experience at Kyoto University (Japan) and The State University of New York (US), and more than four years of experience as a lecturer. He possesses a strong foundation in both theoretical concepts and practical applications.
Dr. Castro’s skill set includes leading research projects, conducting sophisticated data analyses, and developing mathematical models to solve complex problems. His current research interests are driven by a passion for uncovering new knowledge to solve real-world challenges, particularly through the computational analysis of electronic health records.
He has demonstrated proficiency in collecting and analyzing large datasets from the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and the All of Us electronic health data repository, with future extensions to the i2b2 database. He is currently supporting several research projects, applying his skills to uncover public health issues, providing valuable insights, and contributing to advancing medical research from an interdisciplinary perspective. Dr. Castro is also developing his own research projects and is available to offer computational research support and collaborate with researchers within The Alliance.
Investigators interested in conducting research using the N3C Data Enclave (COVID and now the Clinical data set), the All of Us Research Hub, or the Alliance’s HC2RDW (i2b2) data repository, or have questions about large data set analyses, are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Castro (pedro.castro6@upr.edu) to discuss your project.
