The 2023 ACTS annual meeting took place in Washington, DC. With the attendance of a vigorous representation from clinical and translational scientists from most of the CTSA institutions as well as of IDEA CTR states and institutions, the three days included sections on mentoring, the latest advances in treatments and clinical research, the need for diversity and the inclusion of underrepresented groups in clinical research, and the presentation of advanced research developed within the frame of translational science.
Puerto Rico was represented among others by scientists and trainees from The Alliance, the Title V project in Clinical and Translational Research, at the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico (MSC-UPR) and The Hispanic in Research Capabilities Endowment (HiReC) at MSC-UPR, among others:

Dr. Valerie Wojna presented her work dealing with The Alliance’s productivity metrics system to evaluate progress among the trainees, especially those participating in the Pilot Projects.
She presented both orally and in poster format

Dr. Elsa Orellano, from the School of Health Professions, MSC-UPR, who is one of the recipients of the 2023-2025 Mentor-Mentee awards, presented her work on assistive technology for the elderly, which was sponsored by the Title V project at MSC-UPR and serves as preliminary findings for the work she will develop using the Mentor-Mentee Team.

Dr. Margarita Irizarry with Dr. Darlene Santiago, from the School of Pharmacy, MSC-UPR, presented her work on opioids and buprenorphine. This work has received sponsorship from The Alliance, and its findings were used as preliminary results for the Pilot Project proposal, currently under revision.
