(2) Disclaimer
“The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Institutes of Health.”
(3) Advance notification
Prior to issuing a press release concerning the results of Alliance-supported, NIH-funded research, investigators must notify the Alliance. NIH requires that the awarding Institute or Center (IC) be notified in advance to allow for coordination. The Alliance will assist investigators in ensuring appropriate notification and coordination occurs prior to release.
5. NIH PUBLIC ACCESS POLICY (EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025) (NOT-OD-25-101)
All NIH-funded manuscripts must:
- Be submitted to PubMed Central (PMC) upon acceptance
- Be made publicly available immediately upon publication
- Obtain a PMCID for compliance reporting
- Follow **no-embargo policy (embargoes are not allowed)**
Journal selection requirement:
- Do not submit to journals that require or enforce embargo periods that conflict with NIH public access rules
- Prefer journals that allow immediate compliance or open access publication
6. FOREIGN COLLABORATION AND AUTHORSHIP RESTRICTIONS (CRITICAL)
Per Notice Number:
NOT-OD-26-084
Publications citing the ALLIANCE grant may not include foreign institutional affiliations unless:
- The ALLIANCE has been notified
- Prior NIH approval (if required) has been obtained
- Written clearance has been provided before submission
This applies even if:
- No funds are transferred
- The collaborator contributes only as an author
If approved:
Clearly state that the foreign component was not supported by the ALLIANCE and that no IDeA-program funds were sent to a foreign institution.
Important:
NIH-funded investigators should take care to accurately list their affiliations on publications to reflect where they performed the NIH-funded work rather than using their current address if it is different from the performance site.
7. PRIOR ALLIANCE APPROVAL IS REQUIRED (NEW)
All manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, or other publications that include the ALLIANCE grant number must be reviewed and approved by the ALLIANCE before submission.
This approval is required before sending any work to a journal, conference, or public outlet.
No submission may proceed without ALLIANCE clearance.
8. ALIGNMENT WITH NIH PRIORITIES AND LANGUAGE
All publications acknowledging Alliance support must:
- Align with current NIH research priorities
- Use accurate and appropriate NIH terminology and language
