Overview
The Health Resources (HR) Core is dedicated to strengthening the clinical and translational research workforce, supporting early-stage investigators, and accelerating impactful research that improves health outcomes across Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland. Through funding, mentorship, and collaborative infrastructure, the HR Core empowers investigators to transition into independent researchers and successfully compete for NIH and equivalent funding.
Core objectives
- Support innovative, interdisciplinary clinical and translational research on health issues affecting Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland through pilot and developmental project funding
- Support the development and implementation of multisite collaborative projects
- Foster the development of competitive researchers in clinical and translational research
The overall objective of the HR Core is to strengthen clinical and translational research by providing funding to investigators, supporting preliminary data generation for competitive grants, and promoting multidisciplinary collaborations. The HR core will foster investigator’s development through training, mentorship, grant-writing support, and continuous tracking of career progression and research productivity.
Programs & Funding Opportunities
Pilot Projects (PP)
- Duration: 1 year
- Funding: $50,000
- Purpose: Evaluate feasibility and generate preliminary data for NIH applications or equivalents
- Eligibility: Early-stage, new investigators, and clinicals fellows. Established investigators with a new research focus are also eligible.
