Dr. Yamil Gerena
About:
Dr. Gerena is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Puerto Rico, with extensive expertise in molecular biology, immunology, and advanced laboratory techniques.
His research focuses on understanding the biological mechanisms behind conditions such as HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders and cardiovascular disease.
With over 20 years of experience in flow cytometry and laboratory-based research, Dr. Gerena has contributed to identifying key biomarkers and pathways that help explain how these conditions develop and progress. His work supports efforts to improve diagnosis and advance treatment strategies.
Within the Alliance, he serves as Core Leader for the Clinical & Technological Research Resources (CTRR) , where he helps strengthen research infrastructure and provides critical support to investigators. His leadership ensures that research teams have access to the tools and expertise needed to carry out high-quality, impactful studies
