Most cases can be detected through routine screening before symptoms develop. The Burden of Colorectal Cancer in Puerto RicoDuring 2018β2022, approximately 1 in every 9 men and 1 in every 10 women diagnosed with cancer in Puerto Rico had CRC, which also accounted for about 1 in 8 cancer deaths among both sexes, making it the leading cause of cancer-related death on the island. |

CariDen Launch Strengthens Alliance Biorepository Network |
|

The University of Puerto Ricoβs Medical Sciences Campus recently inaugurated CariDen, the first dental biorepository in the Caribbean, marking a significant advancement in research infrastructure to support genetic and precision medicine studies in oral and systemic health.
The project is led by Dr. Carmen J. BuxΓ³, a member of the Alliance for Clinical and Translational Research, whose leadership has been instrumental in bringing this initiative to fruition. |

CariDen is also part of the Allianceβs Biorepository Network, expanding access to high-quality biospecimens and fostering collaboration among researchers locally and across the region. This milestone further strengthens Puerto Ricoβs position as a key hub for clinical and translational research in the Caribbean. |

The San Juan Bautista School of Medicine invites the community to save the date for the 10th SJBSM Interdisciplinary Research Symposium, taking place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at its facilities in Caguas, Puerto Rico.
