About:  

Dr. Cynthia Pérez is a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the University of Puerto Rico and a leader in research focused on heart health, diabetes, and related cardiometabolic conditions affecting our communities.

She serves as one of the Principal Investigators of the Puerto Rico Young Adults’ Stress, Contextual, Behavioral & Cardiometabolic Risk (PR-OUTLOOK) Study, which examines the associations of stress, lifestyle, and social factors on cardiovascular health among young adults in Puerto Rico. She is also a Multiple Principal Investigator of the PR–Community Engagement Alliance, in collaboration with the Comprehensive Cancer Center and sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

As Leader of the Alliance Professional Development Core, Dr. Pérez collaborates closely with fellow leaders to strengthen training and mentoring opportunities for investigators and research staff. Her guidance supports rigorous, high-quality research while fostering the development of the next generation of professionals dedicated to advancing community health.
