The Mentor-Mentee teams’ program is designed to help new investigators develop partnerships, skills, and tools to be successful in obtaining external funding to support their careers as independent researchers. One Mentor-Mentee team will be selected. The team will have a maximum of two years of support, contingent on progress shown through follow-up meetings and written progress reports.
Program Eligibility:
- Alliance or previous PRCTRC Pilot Project Awardees, Alliance or PRCTRC previous Pilot Project Non-Awardees, and participants who completed the Art of Grantsmanship Intensive Workshop OR;
- ≥1 publication in peer-reviewed journals within the last 5 years OR;
- Has submitted >1 local or national pilot project.
- Pilot Project Awardees OR;
- ≥2 first, second, or corresponding author peer-reviewed publications that specifically highlight the candidate’s experience and qualifications in clinical and translational research related to a specific area within the last 5 years OR;
- Has submitted ≥1 external competitive grant (excluding pilot projects).

- Opportunity to publish manuscript/s (≥ 1 first, second, or corresponding author manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals and present research work in scientific conferences).
- Opportunity to prepare and submit research grant/s [competitive (e.g., K-award, R21, T32) or independent].
- Funds available to protect 75% of the mentee’s time (assistant professor salary base) and effort and 10% of the mentor’s time and effort.
Program Application Process
To be considered for the Mentor-Mentee teams’ program, the candidate has to:
- Deadline extended Submit a Letter of Intent by January 17, 2023.
- Access the application package
- Submit the complete package by January 30, 2023, including a Letter of Support from a Mentor or Research Collaborator and the NIH Biographical Sketches.
Requirements

- Commitment of 2 years.
- Time availability and commitment for regular and frequent meetings (minimum of 1 hour per week).
- Participation in a 1-day team mentoring training retreat (both mentor and mentee).
- Mentor/mentee must attend meetings and seminars that support the mentee in his/her research career development.
- Mentor/mentee must participate in biannual evaluations and assessments of the mentor-mentee relationships. Periodic progress reports will be required and meetings with personnel from The Alliance (focus on Research Career Development Plan and research productivity). Continuation of support depends on progress attained.
- The mentee must present his/her research in The Alliance and other forums.
- Start filling out the application package and attached a letter of intention from a (deadline: January 9, 2023) – Please do not forget to click on the “Save and Return Later” bottom to continue/complete the application later. Submit the complete requested documentation by Jaunary 30, 2023.
- After selection – sign a commitment contract.
