Incorporating Medication Therapy Management in Pharmacogenomic Services into an Interdisciplinary Rural Health Program

Dr. Rodríguez Nazario is a clinical pharmacist and researcher, committed to advancing pharmaceutical care and highlighting the value of pharmacist-led interventions within the healthcare system. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus in 2008, and her Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from the Medical Sciences Campus in 2014. After completing her Pharm.D., she pursued an ASHP-accredited Community Pharmacy Residency (PGY-1) and obtained an Academic Certificate in 2015. Her research career began during her residency, achieving her first publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, which sparked her passion for clinical research. Currently, as an Assistant Professor, she serves as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Investigator (Co-PI) on multiple projects, mentoring pharmacy students and evaluating the clinical impact of pharmaceutical interventions. Her research covers areas such as ambulatory care, care transitions, emergency departments, and community pharmacies. She also collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in rheumatology clinics, working closely with rheumatologists to optimize pharmacotherapy and demonstrate the pharmacist’s essential role in medication management. These collaborations have showcased her clinical expertise and ability to integrate into healthcare teams. She is currently leading a retrospective study on the clinical utility of pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing as part of comprehensive medication management in rheumatology patients. Her work reflects a deep commitment to improving health outcomes and patient experience.
