The study “Social Determinants of Health Associated with Cervical Cancer-Related Care Across the Cancer Control Continuum Among Women Living with HIV in Puerto Rico” (NIGMS Grant #1P20GM148324-01) aims to explore the impact of social determinants of health (SDoH) on the continuum of cervical cancer care (screening, diagnosis, and treatment) in people living with HIV in Puerto Rico (PR).
The information obtained from this study will inform and guide the development and evaluation of tailored cancer interventions at multiple levels to reduce barriers to cervical cancer care, while reducing morbidity and mortality and ensuring health equity.
The research study will employ a mixed methods approach with three main objectives:
- One of these objectives aims to establish multilevel factors among SDoH that affect timely cervical cancer care for people with and without an HIV diagnosis who have had a history of precancerous lesions in the cervix or cervical cancer between 2010 and 2024 in PR.
- The study will conduct 4 focus groups; 2 in the Metropolitan area of San Juan and 2 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
We will recruit a total of 40 participants. Our team is currently recruiting!
